
The AIJS is the Association of Independent
Junior Schools in Ireland.
There are approximately 6,000 pupils in over 35 schools of all types and sizes
from all areas of Ireland.:
- Boys, girls, co-educational
- Day, boarding, weekly and flexi-boarding
- City, town, suburban and country
Membership is open to any Independent Junior
School in the Republic of Ireland, with 50 pupils or more,
subject to:
- Having an enrolment of 50 pupils or more
- Supporting the aims and objectives of the Association
- Paying the annual subscription as set by the Annual
General Meeting
An Independent Junior School is a non-recognised primary school, where the
pupils on the roll receive their education regularly and systematically,
in the company of other children in a place other than their home.
The AIJS was set up to:
- To provide a forum for the exchange of ideas
- To promote the professional development of Principals
and
Staff in independent junior schools.
- To organise inter-school events for pupils in independent
junior schools.
- To negotiate and liaise with the Department of Education
and
Science and other relevant bodies on behalf of member schools.
- To co-operate with other organisations interested
in Primary education.
Overall to represent and advance the interests of independent primary
Schools at national level.
The Committee
The Committee are elected each September/October at the annual general
meeting of the association. It generally has a committee of ten members
who elect from within their ranks a Chairperson, a vice-Chairperson,
a Secretary and a Treasurer.
